Can India become a superpower? (क्या भारत एक महाशक्ति बन सकता है ?) That's the question the World Economic Forum wants you to answer in the Davos Debates in India. The video discussion coincides with the the annual India Economic Summit, held in New Delhi on 8-10 November.
India has the world's second largest population and one of the fastest growing economies today. Experts predict that India will become a global superpower within fifty years - thanks to its economic growth and young population. Access to healthcare, reliable power and clean water are also in desperate short supply. Could these gaps prevent India from achieving what finally seems within its grasp?
The Forum in collaboration with NDTV invites the YouTube community to share its thoughts on whether India can harness its huge potential effectively at http://youtube.com/davos. The best videos will become part of the discussions at the 2009 India Economic Summit. During the Summit, a dedicated video corner will allow more than 700 industry, government and thought leaders to reply to the videos submitted by the YouTube community.
Under the theme, "India’s Next Generation of Growth", the World Economic Forum celebrates 25 years of collaboration and active engagement in India. As a result of over two decades of close partnership with India, the annual India Economic Summit is regarded as the most effective platform for formulating an agenda to further India’s growth.
Some reasons for India has a long way to reign as Superpower:
1. Hunger per capita food consumption lower.
2. Corruption.
3. Lack of civic sense.
4. Poor roads and public transport.
5. Large population.
6. Poor Governance and leadership.
7. Caste based reservations.
8. Lack of uniform civil code and communalized polity.
9. Hostile neighbours.
10. Lack of safe drinking water and sanitation.
11. Poor public distribution and lack of social security.

Its too early to say that india can become a superpower. Yes india is growing more faster than any other emerging country. Abdul Kalam is working hard for the nation to make country super power by 2020.

I think India will be a superpower in next few years because this country is producing highest number of graduates in the world and the people between 20 to 35 years are ready to do any type of work that can inprove their financial and social status. If the people of a country wants to improve themselves then no body can stop them in doing so.

When i look at how many jobs are outsourced to India i am shocked. Especially in the IT and internet marketing fields. I believe that as these begin to grow so will India's economy because their are so many young people that they will probably fill the gaps quite nicely and allow it to grow. Lets just use the company www.mindshape.com for example. (even though they are a Canadian company) They are growing very fast and can help people develop marketing idea's and how the general consensus feel. I feel this will be very important especially in India with its wide cultural diversity.

I feel elated getting to know about the immense potential that India has in graduating to a developed economy status by effectively leveraging human capital, but how relevantly can we make this a inclusive one still remains an uncertainty. How can we make it better on HDI, social well being, reducing the economic inequity??? These issues remain unanswered for eternity.
