At 3:30 pm, in the conference room of the World Economic Forum, the white band was almost everywhere. It even competed with WEF logos…
Symbol chosen by more than a thousand NGOs to symbolize someone’s commitment in the “Global Call to Action against Poverty” (launched on Thursday at Porto Alegre), the white band seems to have found its way to Davos.
During the session, the moderator was wearing it round his head, Singers Bono and Youssou N’Dour were wearing it round their wrists - like many people in the audience not exclusively made of journalists but of members of NGOs as well.
In fact, only two persons at the speaker’s platform were not wearing the band : Gordon Brown, UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Herve Gaymard, his French counterpart.
Considering the proposals made by France and the United Kingdom to fight against poverty those past days, was it necessary anyway ?
The coming days will tell us whether wearing a white band in Davos is “fashionable” or not.
